Sometimes, and always when you expect it least but need it most, something happens that renews your spirit, your sense of hope, your faith in humanity (and all that other groovy stuff), something that proves--beyond a shadow of doubt--love still grows in the hearts of men and women. For me, it was a down-to-earth proposal.
I was rushing across the parking lot, trying to beat the setting sun, when I saw a young couple pulling in. I think we may have shared a brief wave between us, I don't remember now... I hurried on but got down to the water's edge to find the sun had won the race. I took a couple of quick, so-so shots, then turned to head back up the hill and there they stood.
I knew almost immediately what I was witnessing, and yet there was nothing I could do--short of walking deeper into the woods, at dark time, with no flashlight, no mosquito net...an option I did consider, momentarily--to avoid disturbing the young man in the middle of proposing to the young lady. So what did I do?
I offered to take a photo to commemorate the occasion of course.
